Hyaluronic Acid, Retinol, Collagen. What is right for me?
As in every field, there are trends. It can become a bit hard to know which one to use, what product is good for our own skin ? How to use it ? etc…
Let’s see what is actually right for YOU!
Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid can work for people with any skin type, including those with sensitive skin or are prone to breakouts as well as for pregnant women or breastfeeding. What hyaluronic acid does is attract and bind the water molecules and increase the water content of the skin leaving the skin looking plumper.
Do not use if: If you are receiving radiation therapy (hyaluronic acid would act as food to the tumour) if you have scleroderma (applying hyaluronic acid to the skin might make skin ulcers worse.
Retinol
Retinol is a vitamin A derivative and can help with Acne and ageing by helping cells regenerate. As it promotes cell regeneration, it is also a great ally to help fade pigmentation spots. Is it for anyone? No! Retinol and retinoid should be used for ageing oily or normal skin. Due to the cell turnover it provokes, its use may lead to flaky and dry skin, which is why it wouldn’t be advised for sensitive and dry skin. When using Retinol? Retinol makes your skin more sensitive to UV rays and sunlight decreases the efficacy of the product, for those reasons it is advised to use it at night.
Do not use if: You are pregnant or nursing. If you have sensitive, dry skin or rosacea. Retinol would only make your skin dryer.
Collagen
Naturally, your skin produces collagen. While getting older, your skin produces less of it than before, making your skin feel looser and looser. To prevent that it can be a good thing to consume collagen. Now, consuming it can be damaging to the environment as collagen is derived from cattle. Brazil has found cattle raised on farms causing deforestation were processed at abattoirs serving international collagen supply chains. Some pescatarian option exists as well, no vegetarian /vegan alternative are currently available.
This can be used by all skin type.
Do not use if: You are allergic to fish, shellfish or egg. You have a Kosher or Halal diet. You have a vegetarian or vegan diet.
